About Wiz Khalifa

Biography

Cameron Jibril Thomaz (born September 8, 1987), better known by his stage name Wiz Khalifa, is an American hip-hop recording artist, record producer, actor and musician. Khalifa was born in Minot, North Dakota. Then relocated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with his family during his childhood. He began his journey, in the music industry by rapping and recording during his high school years. Eventually, he ventured into establishing his record label called K.I.N.G. After deciding to leave college in 2007.

Music Style

Wiz Khalifa’s music style is closely related to the time of hip-hop, rap, and beat, and it can be attributed to pop music. Khalifa’s music itself can be described as having a relaxing mood, easy delivery, and simple annotation. Khalifa’s favorite topics in his world are partying and marijuana, and Khalifa also sings about his own life with a number of autobiographical details. His tones and words are easy to spot, flowing anywhere without paying attention to the structure or the effect it brings. Khalifa is mostly influenced by Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Cam’ron and The Notorious B I G. Khalifa combines classic hip-hop, beat, and rap genres with new genres such as pop and electronics.

History

After releasing his very first mixtape – Prince of the City: Welcome to Pistolvania – in 2005, Wiz Khalifa found his musical career really taking off. The project received a good deal of local attention, and it helped him land his first studio album: Show and Prove (2006). That led to a deal with Warner Bros. Records in 2007. Khalifa later left the label.

Then in 2010, after a few mixtapes, his hometown shout-out ‘Black and Yellow’, praising the Pittsburgh Steelers, became a monster hit, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100. That same year, he released his major-label debut album, Rolling Papers (2011), featuring the songs ‘Roll Up’ and ‘No Sleep’.

Fueled by his commercial success, Khalifa released further albums including O.N.I.F.C. (2012), which included the No. 1 single ‘Work Hard, Play Hard’ and Blacc Hollywood (2014), for which he received his first Grammy nod. Then there was ‘See You Again’, featuring the songstress Charlie Puth, Khalifa’s song for the Furious 7 soundtrack, which was one of the bestselling singles of all time. It topped charts across the globe and spawned awards.

Besides performing, Wiz Khalifa has also retained his status as an actor, appearing as a main character in films such as Mac & Devin Go to High School (2012) alongside the rapper and fellow marijuana advocate Snoop Dogg. He is also a businessman, having a marijuana products line called Khalifa Kush, as well as other endorsements.

Conclusion

From a kid from Pittsburgh who rapped around basement bonfires dreaming of becoming rap royalty to a real-life international music superstar, Wiz Khalifa’s meteoric rise has been nothing short of phenomenal. He has managed to blend hip-hop and pop seamlessly. His natural charisma has made him one of the well known music figures of his era. With a series of chart-topping songs, successful albums and a growing range of business ventures Khalifa remains a presence, in the industry.

Review

“His appeal was always in his effortlessness—every syllable crisply annunciated, each bar delivered with a little melody. Khalifa claims Pittsburgh, but he’s also an army brat; his voice is accentless, and there’s little in the way of regional flair to his music. His greatest assets are malleability and flexibility, which have allowed him to try out a variety of styles and subgenres, from the relaxed stoner rap of Kush and Orange Juice to the Top 40 trap of “We Dem Boyz.”
